Tate Publishing based in Oklahoma was a leading Christian book publisher in the USA for many years. They provided book publishing, distribution and marketing services for a fee but their fees weren’t disclosed on their website. This led many authors to assume that Tate Publishing was a traditional publishing company when it fact they weren’t. They were more of a hybrid publisher, charging their author clients to handle services like book design, editing, printing, marketing and publicity for a fee.
Is Tate Publishing Still in Business?
In 2017, after having published tens of thousands of Christian books for authors worldwide, Tate Publishing and Enterprises LLC ceased operations and put a note on their website, which is down now, stating that they wouldn’t be taking on any new clients. Unfortunately, their abrupt shuttering left thousands of authors without a home for their books.
What Happened to Tate Publishing?
At their height, Tate Publishing & Enterprises was voted one of the best places to work in Oklahoma. But Tate Publishing ultimately got into financial and legal trouble — the Attorney General even got involved — and had to close. The father and son owners were arrested at one point before a judge decided that they’d have to pay restitution to their victims.
Tate Publishing LLC Books
Amazon.com still shows around 3,000 results for Tate Publishing & Enterprises published books. Many of these authors probably aren’t even aware that their Tate published titles are still on Amazon. If you are one of those authors, or you know a Tate Publishing and Enterprises LLC author, I recommend my own company MindStir Media as an alternative.
MindStir Media is a Perfect Alternative to Tate Publishing and Enterprises
MindStir Media is one of the best Christian book publishers in the United States as of 2023. MindStir has been in business since 2009 and has published over 1,000 titles. Gary LeVox from the Rascal Flatts endorsed MindStir Media recently. Unlike Tate, MindStir Media offers 100% royalties and you keep your rights. Tate Publishing Review
Summary
Defunct Tate Publishing was never a traditional publisher despite claiming so. Plus lawsuits forced the company to close, and around 3,000 Tate books are still listed on Amazon.
